Summary:

IDP provided landscape design services for the proposed student accommodation development at the existing business park off Longwood Close, Westwood, Coventry. The proposed development comprises a mixed-use development arranged over 9 separate blocks, comprising student residential accommodation with ancillary areas including communal amenity spaces, “Co-living” space and a retail unit.

The area is characterised by a number of large-scale buildings along Westwood Way within a planned setting, and a strong landscape structure. The design of the landscape scheme has been heavily influenced by the level changes across the site, the connectivity of the spaces, and the character of the development. This has resulted in innovative design responses using seating terraces, landscaped banks and steps to aid circulation and create attractive spaces. Distinctive public areas within the development promote social interaction and activity delivered through good connectivity from surrounding roads. Clear waymarking, surface materials and street furniture help to create a pleasant welcoming environment and access to amenity facilities for the wider business park.
