Summary:
With the backing of NHS ETTF funding, this project is the culmination of our client’s vision which has been 5 years in the making. The existing medical centre holds strong ties with the local community, having served them for a number of years. Improving these facilities whilst incorporating the practice heritage was a key intention of our client. Our design was therefore evolutionary; building on the past and retaining some original features whilst also expanding and modernizing to improve services, customer experience and wellbeing. We incorporated some of the existing layout for familiarity, kept the external wall as a key feature within the new atrium and named the treatment rooms after former Doctors, paying homage to their counsel over the years. The design of the internal space employs principles of healing architecture including ease of access, a glass atrium drawing the gaze upward towards the sky and clarity of wayfinding using colour co-ordinated signage and subways.
